Clinical Observation on Hearing Impairment in Diabetes Mellitus Boli


Abstract
Author have performed the clinical, audiometrical and biochemical studies for 41 diabetes patients(male 26, female 15) frons June, 1977 to June, 1978 at the Departmeni of Internal Medicine of National. Police Hospital.
The results are as follows;
1. Fourteen of 41 cases revealed hearing impairment and all have bilateral sensorineural hearingioss except one case.
2. In hearing type, the most frequent type was descending sensorineural from in eight cases, and the next was abrupt drop type in three cases.
3. The incidence of hearing loss is higher in middle and elder age groups..
4. Incidence of hearing loss seems to have some relationship with high blood sugar level and total serum cholesterol level, but no relationship with the duration of the diabetes.
5. Higher incidence of hearing loss was noticed in cases accompanied by compilcations such as diabetic retinopathy hypertension.
6. None of the patients complained vestibular symptoms.
